Ragin' Cajuns officially open 2021 Indoor Season with first meet in 11 months

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team officially opens its 2021 Indoor Season on Saturday when it travels to Baton Rouge to compete at the LSU Purple Tiger at Carl Maddox Field House.
 
Competition begins with field events at 9:30 a.m., followed by running events beginning at 1 p.m. Joining Louisiana and host LSU in the 11-team, non-scoring meet comprised of in-state schools include Grambling, ULM, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern and Tulane.
 
Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com. Due to COVID-19 protocols, spectators will not be allowed entry into Carl Maddox Field House.
 
After having the 2020 Outdoor Season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Louisiana gets back on the track for the first time in a span of 326 days since its last competition at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
 
The season-opening meet is the first of four during the Indoor Season for the Ragin' Cajuns prior to the SBC Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 22-23. Louisiana, which is sending 46 student-athletes to the meet, will also compete during the 2021 Indoor Season at the Samford Invitational (Jan. 22), the Louisiana Invitational in Baton Rouge (Jan. 29) and the SBC Preview in Birmingham (Feb. 7).
 
Chandler Mixon, the Male Most Outstanding Field Athlete at the 2020 SBC Indoor Championships, will make compete in the 60-meter hurdles in his 2021 debut along with returning All-Sun Belt Conference performer and school-record holder Yves Cherubin.
 
Also scheduled to compete for Louisiana will be Frankie Griffin, the school co-record holder in the Women's High Jump (5-9 ¼), and Obdarius Ware, the 2019 SBC Outdoor champion in the men's long jump with the second-best mark (25-4 ¾) in school history.
 
All four members of Louisiana's school-record 4x400-meter relay team – India Brown, Reina Ryan, Emoni Coleman and Ta'La Spates – will make their 2021 debuts with Ryan and Spates each competing in the 60-meter dash, Brown in the 400-meters and Coleman in the Mile Run.
 
All-SBC performers Brock Appiah (60-meters), Solomon Brent (800 meters), Nathan Fergusson (400-meters) and John Joseph (triple jump) will make their 2021 debuts for the Ragin' Cajuns with five athletes – Taylor Davis (women's high jump/triple jump), Kennedy London (women's 60-meters, 60-meter hurdles), Serenity Rogers (women's 60-meters, 60-meter hurdles), Brooklynne Wilson (women's shot put, weight throw) and Rylan Theyard (men's triple jump, high jump) – slated to compete in multiple events.
