Recent national doubles champion to join the Ragin' Cajuns in the 2023-24 season
LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis head coach Luc Godin announced on Monday (Nov. 14, 2022) the signing of Samuel Kyjaci, an international tennis athlete from Slovakia, to a National Letter of Intent to join the program beginning with the 2023-24 academic year.
A native of Leopoldov, Slovakia, Kyjaci most recently competed at the Slovakia National Championship where he claimed a doubles championship and was the runner-up in singles.
In his young career, Kyjaci has produced wins over Top 50-ranked ITF players. He's claimed 64 percent of his matches in 2022, posting a 25-14 mark on the ITF junior circuit.
Some of his top results include:
"It became clear to us very early in the process that he will be a building block for us," Godin added. "His international results and wins over Top 50 ITF players reflects his ability as a tennis player and should translate into a successful four years in Cajun Country."
Kyjaci is the second recruit to sign an NLI with Louisiana during the current national signing period, which continues through August 1, 2023. Also set to join the Ragin' Cajuns next fall is Lafayette's own Mason Landreth of St. Thomas More Catholic High School, the state's top ranked junior player and the two-time defending LHSAA Division I singles champion.
Entering their second season under the leadership of Godin, the Ragin' Cajuns (17-6, 4-2 Sun Belt in 2022) are coming off a 17-win campaign in the Spring 2022 dual match season which resulted in the team being ranked in the ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings (at No. 61) – one of only two teams in the state of Louisiana ranked and the highest in the Sun Belt Conference. That success landed Louisiana an appearance in the prestigious ITA Kickoff Weekend in January 2023.
